--OBI

Detail

I then visited a museum with beautiful tapestry obi, that are worn as sashes with kimonos. The hand woven obi are works of art and often more valuable than the actual kimonos. Examples like these could cost thousands of dollars.

Most Obi are around 30 cm wide and 360 cm long. Generally they are tied at the back, according to various styles. In earlier times, the custom had been to tie them in the front or side.
