Alum - mordant used in dyeing fibre
Ikat - woven fabric in which the pattern is tied and
dyed before weaving
Double ikat - woven fabric in which both warp and weft
are tie-dyed before weaving and the pattern must intersect
Heddles -loops attached to a frame through which warp
yarns are threaded so the yarns may be lifted to make the opening
for the shuttle to pass through.
Loom - equipment on which weaving is done
Mordant - chemicals used to fix dyestuff onto fabric
Puja - worship as carried out at home or in the temple.
Reed - a device having separate openings spaced
evenly, through which warp threads placed to keep them parallel
and properly spaced shile weaving.
Telia Rumal - 'oiled square' from 'tel' meaning
oil, derived from the dye process requiring
oil treatment, and 'rumal' meaning square
Warp - the threads attached lengthwise on the loom
Weft - the threads which are woven across the weft
to create the fabri
